Cinque Terre: Beach paradise / vegan hell

After returning to London for a brief excursion back to vegan paradise, we prepared ourselves for the seafood, cheese drenched Italy. Venice, our first stop where we expected to find the least vegan options, afforded us the luxury of soy milk at the local shop and even a Chinese restaurant with bean curd. As the title of today's blog suggests, Cinque Terre tends to impose the Kate Moss diet on the vegan traveller.

Luckily we have an apartment here so Ange has been able to rustle up some vegan meals from the little fresh vegetable options we have found in Monterosso. We had a nice lunch in the next village, Vernazza, which is just a short 2 1/2 hr walk away(Guess who's idea it was to do the "short" walk to the next village, rather than catch the train - she owes me big!). The views along the walk were spectacular though but my eye sight had blurred from fatigue ab0ut 1 1/2 in, so lucky we have photos to look back on.

Planning on taking a swim today at our local beach and then heading down to the last village, Riomaggiore (the village that is most often shown in photos of Cinque Terre), in the afternoon for a drink and swim.

Here are some photos taken on our walk yesterday:

  1. Wow, these views are so magnificent. But 2 1/2 hours walking and little food - you may be the first tourists ever to return from Italy thinner than when you went! Hope you're absolutely loving it (despite the limited menu).

  2. It's carb hell here Steve - even us vegans get fat when eating pasta and bread day in day out!
