Meet me at the cemetry gates...

Ok, so we have been to two of Paris's most well known cemeteries since we have been here and they have been beautiful places (and that's not just cos we are Buffy fans!). Truly, they are really well worth the visit and are so amazingly well kept and tranquil. The first was the Cimetiere du Montparnasse in the 14th which is where Simone DeBeauvoir and Emile Durkheim (amongst others) are buried. A few days later we set off on bike (loving Velib!) to the more famous Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise in the 11th where Oscar Wilde and Edith Piaf are buried. This was an amazing place which has a view over parts of Paris. Of course, the visitors information centre with the maps was closed when we got there (they close for the 'French' lunch break between 12.30pm and 2pm) so we had to figure it out without the map. It was a tiring but beautiful walk through the hilly, cobble-stoned roads that wind through the many rows of tombstones and crypts. Great location for a vampire film. Ended up at lunch afterwards at Soya (another vego/vegan find) in the 11th.
